Typography is one of the hardest things to get right with design. When it comes to blogs, images, navigational elements and the little details all play a big role in the overall visual aesthetic – but it’s the typography that has the biggest impact. When you’re reading a blog post, the type has a huge bearing on how it’s read. The main aim is to make the blog post easy to read, and to encourage the visitor to continue reading without being distracted. Responsive design also plays a big role here, as it’s important that the blog still reads well on a variety of different devices and sizes.
Oliver Reichenstein from iA once said, back in 2006, that web design is 95% typography. He argued for larger font sizes and to treat text as if it were the user interface. The reason typography is so important in web design is quite simply because it’s the main focus of the majority of sites – the reason that people arrive at your site, is to read your content. Obviously, this is especially true for blogs and so it’s hugely important to get it right.
We’ve brought together a collection of blogs that all use typography beautifully. From large, easy-to-read type to blogs that responsively resize to always be readable, no matter what – each of these blogs have been designed carefully and a lot of thought has been put into the typography. We hope you find our showcase a useful source of inspiration for your next blog design project.
